Dallas, TX – May 9, 2014,– Nick Nemeth, the founder and managing partner of the highly respected Dallas tax law firm The Law Offices of Nick Nemeth, has added a new article to his online portal and website that discusses resolving IRS tax disputes and controversies. The article, “IRS Tax Controversy: Five Facts to Help You Avoid IRS Trouble”, gives taxpayers important information and facts about handling, or better yet avoiding, a dispute over taxes with the IRS.

As the author and an experienced IRS tax lawyer Nick Nemeth writes “Few things terrify grown adults, but an IRS controversy can do just this. This is a government agency which is very powerful and which does not forgive or forget. Internal Revenue Service agents can do many things, including property seizures, account suspensions and garnishments, involuntary payroll garnishments and deductions, and even jail or prison time. Taxpayers have lost homes, vehicles, and even life savings just because they could not settle a debt that they owed to this agency. We can help people, and company owners, resolve issues quickly and effectively.”

It is better to avoid a dispute over your taxes with the IRS, and this is easier than dealing with an IRS controversy after it has started. Some facts that can help taxpayers avoid an IRS tax dispute include:

1. Pay careful attention to any deductions and expenses that are claimed on your tax return, especially if these are larger than what is typical for your income level. Excessive deductions, business losses, and other factors can cause a red flag at the IRS, ad then your tax return will be scrutinized further. You should always claim any legitimate expenses and deductions, but make sure that you have documentation and supporting records in this situation.

2. Taxpayers can file their annual tax return late if they file for an extension, but any tax bill is still owed and needs to be paid on time. If you pay late then you face added penalties, extra interest charges, and other IRS penalties. A extension does not allow you to delay paying any tax owed, it only extends the deadline for filing the return. If you file the necessary forms for an extension you still have to pay the taxes that you owe for the year on April 15 in order to avoid any penalties and interest. Since the penalties and interest can add up quickly you want to avoid them if at all possible.

3. If you receive a notice from the IRS showing that there is a tax dispute or controversy the first thing you should do is consult with a qualified tax attorney who has experience dealing with this feared agency. Often a taxpayer makes the situation even worse, ignoring the matter or trying to comply by sending much more than what was requested by the IRS. Both of these mistakes can cost you in the end, and the right IRS lawyer can protect your rights and help you avoid any costly mistakes while you are working towards a resolution. Do not try to take on the IRS until you have legal representation.

The Law Office of Nick Nemeth has helped hundreds of individuals and business owners in Dallas and the surrounding metroplex area overcome IRS controversies and move forward with their lives.

I would like to thank Mr. Nick and his staff for the superb help that I received from them. My IRS problem was resolved quickly and efficiently. It took 2 visits to convince me that I was over my head. I thought that I could call the IRS, appeal my tax notices and settle on a payment plan on my own. After many phone calls to the IRS, waiting sometimes more than 4 hours with no resolution to speak of, it proved to be extremely difficult and stressful. Revisiting Mr. Nick was a huge wake up call. My account was reviewed, and a payment plan was established with the IRS within a week. I will be forever grateful to the staff who worked on my case and especially to Lorna who listened to me vent while going through this painful process.

I cannot say enough good things about Nick and his team. When I first met with Nick he was up front, honest, friendly and efficient. When I worked with one of his attorneys, Eric B, I was just as pleased. All of the staff there are nice and very helpful. I wish I hadn't waited so long to get help with my issue. Over 6yrs I tried getting through and getting anywhere with the IRS and hardly made any progress. I know this may not be the case for all, and even I thought it would take longer than it did, but 3mos and they had my situation straightened out. I still can't believe it. Thank you thank you THANK YOU for all that you did for me. This is a huge burden gone out of my life now thanks to you. If anyone needs help out there, I know you may not want to shell out more money to get their help but it may just save you in the long run.

During a time in which competent, professional service at a fair price seems to have disappeared, Mr. Nemeth and his team are a refreshing breath of fresh air. From my first phone call to the final settlement of our case with a non-responsive IRS, they under-promised, over-delivered and were in constant courteous contact to make sure we knew exactly what was happening and where we stood.I hope to never need their services again, but, should I receive another friendly letter from the IRS...I know who to call!
